O’Neill Stetina Group – Checking in From Telluride

A Friendly Check In from O’Neill Stetina Group

A Note from Telluride:First things first: we want you to know that we are thinking of you and your family in these uncertain times. We want to provide assurance that this is NOT going to last forever, that we will get through this together, and that good times in Telluride are most definitely ahead. We also want to provide a short update from our corner of the world and hope that you will do the same.

Here are some of the questions we have been asked recently:

What is life like here in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic?
Life in Telluride is still good. We are under county-mandated as well as statewide “shelter-in-place” restrictions but are still free to go hike, ski, fish, and recreate (alone or with our immediate family), as well as go to the grocery store, pharmacy, hardware store, or to pick up takeout food from our local restaurants. Students are doing school online, and we are monitoring the market and pending real estate sales from our homes.

Some highlights from life in quarantine for OSG:

Is it true that Telluride residents are all being tested for coronavirus?
Yes! Hopefully, with the help of local company United Biomedical, San Miguel County will become the first of many communities to do large-scale testing to combat the spread of the virus. Isolating active cases and at-risk persons in our community could realistically lead to a return to the “new normal” sooner than later here in the Telluride valley. If all goes according to plan, this testing platform could become a model for the rest of the country to follow. To learn more, watch the below video:

What can we expect from the Telluride Real Estate Market?
To put it frankly: nobody knows. What we do know is that the things we all love about Telluride are still here and are not going anywhere. Properties are still going under contract, getting through due diligence and closing. Other deals have fallen out of contract. In our experience, even in these circumstances, we have seen compassion and understanding between Buyers and Sellers given the context of these deals taking a “timeout”. Many, we hope and expect, will resume when the world returns to a more recognizable level of certainty.

If you would like to keep an eye on the market from afar, feel free to sign up for electronic access to the Telluride MLS here:

Can you keep an eye on my property for me?
Some of our Sellers have reached out to us as we are “boots on the ground” here in Telluride as they may be quarantined somewhere else. The answer is always “YES”. If you need something, feel free to ask and we will be happy to help in your absence. Likewise, if you don’t yet own in Telluride but would like us to investigate a specific property or nuance of the region – that is what we are here for. While showings, open houses, etc. are officially on hold for the time being, we are still very much available as a resource to you.

What now?
Obviously, this is the one question we are all asking. Our answer is simple: stay vigilant, patient, and understanding that when this is over we will be returning to the Telluride that we love.

We look forward to seeing you again soon. In the meantime, stay safe and keep in touch.

Best wishes,

The O’Neill Stetina Group
